Tools of endearment: Private view

NOW Gallery, 6pm - 8pm, Greenwich Peninsula

1 February 2018

This February join us to celebrate the arrival of Kalliopi Lemos’ triptych of sculptures, which form part of the ongoing series ‘Tools of Endearment’ – the ‘Bra’ (usually displayed at Les Moulins, France); the ‘Stiletto Heel’ (usually displayed at Golden Square, Soho, London) and the never before seen ‘Corset’ will all be on display for the first time at Peninsula Square, and the NOW Gallery will be hosting an informal evening on the 1st February where the artist will be available to chat about her work.

Lemos’ trio of sculptures that make up ‘Tools of Endearment’ are intended to spark a conversation about the role of femininity – both historically and in the current climate today – and set the tone for new and attentive thinking. All too often public sculpture is dominated by male artists and Lemos’ work looks at this imbalance not only through being a female artist, but by using her artwork to create feminine items, such as the bra and the corset, on such a large scale and confronting the public with it, asking: How will these sculptures change Peninsula Square? And how will it get people talking?
