Since 2014, NOW Gallery has been showing innovative and experiential exhibitions from the worlds of contemporary art, fashion and design.
It’s now showcasing the rising stars of illustration and modern art as part of its new Young Artist programme, and the inaugural commission will run from May 16th to June 25th in the form of illustrator Hattie Stewart’s exhibition, I Don’t Have Time For This.
Influenced by ’60s psychedelic art, post-modernism and absurdist pop culture, Stewart’s work is a bright and bold slice of playful fantasy. Having made her reputation with her ‘doodle-bombing’ project – a series of pieces in which the artist draws over influential magazines such as Vogue and i-D, Stewart has since worked with a huge variety of cultural powerhouses including Roman Coppola, Kylie Minogue, House of Holland and more. In her new work, she’ll be presenting a “bold, escapist, large-scale floor-based” piece that invites the viewer to leave reality behind for a moment and enter her world of expressive, immersive imagination.
NOW Gallery is also part of the ongoing regeneration of the Peninsula, aimed at fostering creativity and building a new community. With further exciting commissions still to be announced over the coming months, the summer sun might be far from guaranteed but the season’s still looking pretty damn bright.
